The Gower peninsula provides a fantastic backdrop to a whole array of sporting activities. Obviously if watersports are your idea of fun there is surfing, windsurfing, kayaking, sailing, wake boarding, fishing, boat trips and of course kitesurfing to name a few. If water does not float your boat there is horse riding, climbing, golf, tennis andbeautiful walking on the peninsula.
Active Gower
Winchboarding
Why not try the exciting thrill of Winchboarding aka Wakeskating. Winchskating is a natural progression of wakeboarding and Kiteboarding, but its progression is furthered by the absence of large and extremely expensive boats or Kites. Any area of water is open to Winchboarding even at 3 inch deep.
Deeper water is obviously safer and kickers and sliders can be set up for that extra extreme element.
In its simplicity it enables Kiteboarders/Wakeboarders to learn new Wake style tricks while in the absence of Wind or a boat. Winchboarding in the sea in Waves is really fun especially if you’re a surfer at heart. Give us a shout and we’ll give you a Winchboarding Tow.
Land Yachts
This activity is so much fun and so easy to learn. Land yachts are a great introduction to the wind if Kitesports seem a little too intense. Anyone can learn from kids to grandparents, the yachts are steered like a bike and have 3 wheels with a rope to control your (sheet in/out) speed.
Kayaking
Kayaking is Simple and fun, sit on top kayaks are opening up the coastline of the U.K to many. The kayaks are single/double person craft which are easily controlled and enable users to explore coastlines or cool off in inland waters.
It is important to remember that safety gear including a helmet and buoyancy aid is compulsory if you plan a trip out to sea. (Always check the conditions)
Kite Kayaking
Kite Kayaking or Kayak kite sailing (down wind only) is tremendous fun. The activity is only done in Strong steady winds as Light variable winds will not work as 2 people are involved in the activity.
Paddle Surfing
Stand up paddle surfing is an aspect of surfing that has seen a recent resurgence in the Hawaiian Islands. For those that are not familiar with the sport, it entails standing on a large longboard and propelling yourself with essentially a canoe paddle. It is a sport practiced at one time by the beach boys of Waikiki with roots that likely trace back even further. It is a great form of cross training for all watersports and opens up possibilities on those small onshore days.
Before you start Paddle surfing anywhere you MUST BE A GOOD SWIMMER!!! Don't go too far out from shore or venture out on very windy days where you could get blown out to sea... It could happen! If you are a beginner don't go alone.
