Monday, February 2nd, 2009Snowkiting Switzerland
is it easy?
The Simple answer is “yes” if you can fly a kite on land then you can kiteboard on the snow, and even if you cant fly a kite the basics can be learnt pretty quick.
The hard part is deciding whether you are going to ride a snowboard or a set of skis.
Im a skier at heart, but my first outing in light winds with a 12m Ozone frenzy foil kite was actually with a snowboard.
If you can kitesurf or kite landboard it will be instinctive, and going ‘UP’ hills is a pleasant bonus!!
If you are keen to give it a try Gower kiteriders can highly reccomend there affiliate welsh school ‘Big blue kitesurfing’ who
are out in switzerland till the end of march – and have spaces in their 8 sleeper chalet.
Within easy reach of piste skiing this location offers customers the opportunity to snow kite and piste ski/snowboard all
in one day.
Other contingency activities include a 2 mile downhill toboggan run through the trees, exploring the mountains and glaciers or just taking time to take
in the stunning scenery and fresh mountain air.
Kite landboarding DVD
Thursday, December 18th, 2008Progression Kite Landboarding Beginner is primarily aimed at people with some existing kite flying experience, whether that’s as a kitesurfer, power kiter or existing novice kite landboarder. We aim to give you all the background on the sport, safety, locations and conditions before getting up and riding on the board and slowing down and stopping. Then we’ll refine your stance, building your confidence so you can stay upwind consistently. Then its on to sliding, riding toeside and your first turns, before working on carving turns. Finally we take you through every aspect of jumping – from the absolute basics, small jumps, improved technique for those hugh boasting jumps, then a few grabs and finally aerial transitions.

Progression is all about helping you learn safer and quicker but with a deeper understanding of the core techniques, so you can continue to improve and have fun. A Progression DVD is not something to watch from start to finish, but a tool to dip in and out of as you improve, ready to give you the confidence to tackle the next step with ease.
For Power Kiting enthusiasts, Kite Landboarding is the obvious next step, taking your existing kites and skill, adding a board and giving you the opportunity for speed, distance and jumps. Progression Kite Landboarding Beginner will help you understand how to adapt your kite skills to those required to power a landboard and all the technique so you handle the wheels under your feet.
With lots of large open beaches on the Gower peninsula ideal for kite landboarding and kiteboarding why not introduce yourself to the world of kitesports. Gower Kite landboarders have courses from an hour to 3 hours to get you comfortable with a powerkite and ready to move onto the kite mountainboard. The Progression Fatsand DVD’s is an excellent tool to watch alongside your kite land boarding progression. see our courses and equipment sale here

Extreme sports in the U.K
Friday, November 7th, 2008Whilst strolling through my favourite internet sites I found this on Springwise Two articles on how Extreme sports are taking over, and how some savvy entreprenuers are trying to provide for this fast growing market right here in the U.K
Who knew? London has 60,000 surfers, according to the British Surfing Association, a fraction of the roughly half million enthusiasts throughout the UK. Up till now British surfers basically had two options: don wet suits and brave the crowds at Cornwall and other close-to-home spots or hop a flight to catch the waves abroad.
But a GBP 20m outdoor wave machine along the Thames set to open in 2011 could create an urban surfers’ paradise in East London. The attraction is part of a huge planned sports complex called Venture Xtreme that will also include rock and ice climbing walls, mountain bike and skateboard courses, what’s touted as the world’s longest artificial cave system and a vertical wind tunnel that simulates a skydiver’s freefall
The world of extreme sports, also commonly called adventure sports or lifestyle sports, is growing at an almost unbelievable rate.
The Times in 2003[1] reported that “this ever growing world of extreme sports enthusiasts represents a global market worth in excess of £6 billion.†Growth is occurring at a bewildering speed in all sectors fuelling associated growth in the fashion industry and tourism.
Venture Xtreme Silvertown Quay LONDON
Silvertown Quays is a truly innovative, fully consented, large scale mixed use development with 5,000 residential units, hotels, retail, and other commercial uses. The development centres around ‘Biota’, a stunning Terry Farrell designed aquarium and a unique surf centre, the first project of its kind in the world, designed by Baca Architects. Silvertown Quays is being developed on a 24 Hectare Dockland Site to the south of Victoria Dock in the East End of London.

This unique project brings together a stunning mix of truly innovative and exciting destination attractions creating a new heart for the Royal Docks. The Venture Xtreme surf centre will spectacularly animate a large part of the former pontoon docks, bringing the water to life in an exciting and dynamic way.

Also of interest is a Florida extreme sports store called Adrenalina has gone to the next level by bringing the excitement of its surfing products right into its shopping mall space. Enter the FlowRider: an in-store surfing simulator that creates an artificial wave using highly-pressurized water. Beginners and experts alike get to try out wakeboards (mini surfboards) right in the store. As they balance on boards held aloft by an endless barrage of water, other customers in the store can watch their antics from behind floor-to-ceiling windows.

The zap cat creates zero wake so that its all about edging against a 40 hp engine.
