North VEGAS 2008

Tuesday, August 5th, 2008

As progressive freestyle kiteboarding evolves, the Vegas adapts and conquers! The ’08 Vegas is a high de-power C-design tuned for direct bar-feel and constant power to give you confidence when loading up, unhooking and throwing powered tricks and jumps. Smooth, reactive steering gives the kite a very lively and crisp feel and also makes the Vegas perfect for kite-loops. 5th Element safety lets you go for glory with peace of mind while the Vegas’ quick, easy re-launch gets you back up and riding hassle-free after a wipe-out.

In ’08 the Vegas easily lives up to it’s reputation as the definitive freestyle kite, robust construction and unmistakable style.

Peter Lynn IMPULSE powerkite

Monday, August 4th, 2008

Thought Id write a brief piece on one of our best sellers the Peter lynn Impulse powerkite
peter lynn Impulse powerkite
You want to get into some serious kiteboarding, landboarding or snowkiting action, so let’s get your kite flying skills sorted quickly. With kite powered board sports, you need to control your kite and board at the same time. The easiest way to learn these sports is to get your kite flying skills sorted first, rather than jumping on the board straight away. You need to get a feel of how the kite responds throughout the whole wind window, where the kite produces the most power or the least and how to steer your kite when wanting to get onto the board.
The Impulse is the perfect trainer kite for future kite powered board sport riders, allowing easy control with a control bar and a solid but not too aggressive pull across the wind window.
Impulse bar
The kite gives a stable predictable pull and has various features some of which are a Rock solid construction, combined with specifically chosen materials for top skin, lower skin and profiles, to ensure maximum durability.
- Velcro bridle loop to minimize the chance of bridles getting tangled when packing the kite.
- Velcro outlets in the wingtips to remove any sand from the kite with ease.

5th line versus 4 line Kites

Monday, August 4th, 2008

This is an age old argument that if you patrol the Forums (kiteboarder.co.uk, kiteforum.com, flexifoil.com etc etc) you will find plenty of fors and againsts.
At best it’s what you are comfortable with – Ive personally been using 5 line kites for 4 years now and I dont intend to change unless North or someone else comes up with a safer system.
CHECK THIS The following movie was put together by NORTH KITEBOARDING

to help show the safety aspects of the 5th line system against that of 4 line bow systems
Of course just because the 5th line is a safety line it does’nt mean its full proof , things can go horribly wrong in a sport like kitesurfing but its nice to know your one step away from a totally de powered kite the majority of the time in 6 seconds !!

The new 5th element bar now in its fourth edition is again a swish looking bar with improvements such as a ‘velcro trim line’ to avoid the trim line getting annoyingly tangled around the depower throw, it can now be velcro ed to the stopper ball.
The micro hook is no longer an intergrated system on the bar and can be renounced or left in a dormant state for when your ready to use it.

Fancy hiting the slopes this winter but with a different aspect on having fun in the snow – check this!!

January 09 Were going SNOWKITING

Snow kiting is one of the fastest growing wintersports around. Using kites to harness the power of the wind you can ski/snowboard across flat ground, uphill and once mastered even soar through the air. No need for lift passes or queues, the possibilities are endless.
Gower kite riders has teamed up with Big Blue Kitesurfing & The Swiss Snowkiting School to offer courses and trips for the complete kite novice or for kiters looking to crossover on to the snow.

The Swiss Snow Kiting School is based on the Simplon Pass which is an ideal learning location for beginners but also offers some challenging slopes for the more advanced. 2.5 hours from Geneva International Airport and 1 hour from Chamonix the school is well connected for short breaks and within easy reach of downhill resorts if the wind doesn’t blow!
